MUD Jeans
History and Philosophy
It all started in 2012, when Bert van Son founded MUD Jeans. Why jeans? Well, jeans are one of the most polluting fashion items. It uses 7,000 liters of water and harmful chemicals. With over 200,000 million pairs of jeans sold each year, the impact of recycling jeans and using organic cotton can be huge.
Who is behind the brand
With over 30 years of experience in the fashion industry, Bert van Son has seen it all. He found that the lives of factory workers are extremely demanding and that the incessant demands for materials, due to the explosion of production, are ruining our planet. He wanted to do things differently.
Bert believes it is possible to have fun without destroying the earth and its resources. Together with his team, Bert has built MUD Jeans into an exemplary circular fashion company, introducing the pioneering “Rent a Jean” model in 2013 and constantly putting the principles of the circular economy into practice.

Ecological and social commitment
ECOLOGICAL COMMITMENT
MUD JEANS is the world's first circular denim brand. By applying the principles of the circular economy, MUD JEANS drastically reduces its ecological footprint, and that of its jeans.
– 533 million liters of water saved over the last 4 years
– 1000 tonnes of CO2 over the last 4 years
– 20,000 jeans have been “saved” from landfill and incineration, for recycling, over the last 4 years
THE MEDIUM-TERM OBJECTIVE IS TO DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE THE FIRST JEANS WITH 100% RECYCLED COTTON.
But already, our jeans are much more resource-efficient than traditional jeans:
-90% less water consumption
– 70% less CO2 emissions
– approximately 50% reduction in impact on land use
– approximately 50% reduction in the impact on biodiversity
SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT
Jeans made by happy people – totally possible! MUD Jeans only works with selected manufacturers who ensure the well-being of everyone involved. Our jeans are made with GOTS (Global Organic Textiles Standard) certified cotton. GOTS ensures that farmers work in fair and safe conditions, and that no pesticides, insecticides or toxic chemicals are used at any time.
Mr. Habib Ben Mansour, the owner of Yousstex International, our jeans supplier, takes good care of his staff and says that he produces noble products. We completely agree.
